The Pashtuns, also known as Pathan or Pushtuns, are an ethnic group primarily found in Afghanistan and Pakistan. They have a long and rich history that dates back to ancient times. During the medieval period, the Pashtuns established powerful empires such as the Durrani Empire, which controlled much of present-day Afghanistan and Pakistan. During the colonial era, Pashtuns fought against British and Russian imperialists, leading many significant resistance movements. After independence from British rule, Pashtuns played a central role in the politics of Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Pashtunistan movement emerged in the 1940s, demanding the creation of an independent Pashtun state. In recent history, Pashtuns have been heavily involved in the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan, with many fighting against foreign occupation and later against the Taliban government. Pashtuns also played a key role in the Pakistani political arena, with many Pashtun political leaders and military officials holding high-ranking positions.
